new study out of McGill University has found that billions of micro and nano-plastics are released into water from plastic tea bags.

According to the study, “a single plastic teabag at brewing temperature (95 °C) releases approximately 11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 billion nanoplastics into a single cup of the beverage.”

The inspiration behind Orange Shirt Day stems from an indigenous woman named Phylis Webstad. In 1973, Webstad went shopping with her grandparents to prepare for school.

On that day, Webstad’s grandparents had bought her an orange shirt. When she was taken to a residential school, Phylis was stripped of the orange shirt and was not allowed to have it back.
